How can I lose 30 pounds in 5 months?

I just lost 22 lbs in the last 3 months. I went from 246 lbs down to 224 lbs.

I am 6’4” 29yo and male.

I have exercised slightly, but most weight loss can be started primarily by diet. Excercise certainly helps but cannot be enough without diet improvement.

For me there was two primary things that have helped me drop weight:

#1 no sugary drinks. Added sugar is a poison. No artificial sweeteners either.

#2 cut carbs dramatically. My goal has been to keep non vegetable carbs under 50 grams per day and eliminate all simple carbs. For example a slice of bread is 11 grams for reference. I have not limited vegetable carb intake. Excess simple carbs will kill your weight loss goals.

Be really patient with yourself especially for the first couple weeks. Treat weight loss like a vector or directional trend. Some days you will be up or down a few to several lbs. but don’t let this defeat you. Water content in the body can fluctuate dramatically.

For me a few things have really helped kick my carb habit. When I have cravings for chips or crackers which have always been my weakness I allow myself to eat as many carrots, pickles, or almonds as I want. For a while I ate quite a few of those. Then eventually my cravings diminished and I ate a reasonable amount of these alternatives.

The other thing that has helped is increasing my protein and healthy fat intake. These help reduce cravings for junk food because you actually feel more full and satisfied.

I also started taking a probiotic to improve gut health which has been shown to help the body with digestion (part of the weight loss process). I also started taking a multivitamin to make sure my body has everything that it needs as my diet fluctuates.

I am still working on losing another 15–20 lbs and will likely need to ramp up my excercise habit to get back down to my goal weight (I used to be a runner at 196 lbs.), but diet alone has really helped me drop my first 22.

I already feel much better and definitely have more energy in life.

I have been an entrepreneur for the last 5 years and had gotten in bad habits of not respecting my physical and mental health. I am working hard to change this.

I wish you the best of luck with all of your weight loss goals!
